I'm an Atheist. Can you prove to me that there is a God?

First, let me ask you this: Is that a rhetorical question, or do you really want an answer? You see, the Bible never attempts to prove the existence of God, and most people who question His existence do so because believing that there is a God has moral consequences associated with it. If I believe in God, then that means that I cannot be my own God. I cannot create my own system of morality. It means that there are such things as absolutes, etc.

If you really want to know whether or not there is a God, ask yourself these questions: 1. “Can I prove that God doesn't exist?” And, 2. “Is there more evidence for God's existence than for His non-existence?” For instance, how do you explain the human body without God? If I were to tell you that the computer that I am typing this article on evolved over millions of years without any intelligent design, you would say that I had lost my mind. Let us suppose that I told you that one day, millions of years ago, plastic began to form into the shape of a laptop. The plastic itself appeared with no intelligent design, and as it took on the shape of a laptop, a screen formed, and a hard drive. Amazingly, a CD burner evolved in the side of the laptop, and it was just the right size to hold a writable CD that evolved over a period of millions of years as well. A processor evolved inside of the laptop and, most amazing of all, an operating system formed on the hard drive to operate the computer. It evolved so precisely, that it was able to install and run the word processing program that I am using to type this article. Of course, the word processing program also evolved without any intelligent design. That is foolish isn't it? So why would we believe that a human being who is a billion times more complex than a computer evolved over millions of years without intelligent design? Brilliant men like Sir Isaac Newton and Blaise Pascal believed in God. They, and other scholars, scientists, kings and common folks believed and do believe in God because faith in a Creator is logical. The idea that there is no God takes a great deal of faith to believe because it defies common sense.

Think about this: If man evolved from lower forms of life, where did the lower life forms come from? If you believe that they came from an ancient earth that was rich in substances that could form life, where did the substances that could form life come from? If you believe that millions or billions of years ago, that they originated after the “Big Bang,” where did the substances to cause the “Big Bang” come from? Matter cannot have always just existed. It had to come from somewhere. If you keep asking the question, “Where did that come from?” you will eventually come to the conclusion that there had to be a Creator.

In the account of creation given in the first book of the Bible, Genesis, the phrase, “after their kind” is repeated over and over again to describe the reproduction of life. For instance, “And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.” (Genesis 1:21) This law has never been violated. Things always reproduce “after their kind.” You cannot cross a chicken and a sheep and get an offspring. A human being cannot mate with a monkey and produce a child. Creatures do evolve or change within their own kind. Human beings come in many different skin tones, with different eyes, hair, height, weight, etc. However, the idea that one kind can evolve into another kind, macroevolution, is not provable. Does the fact that monkeys are similar to men prove that they have a common ancestor or that they have a common Creator? A table, chair and cabinet made in a master-designer's workshop have many similarities. They did not evolve from one another. They had a common creator. If you will look at the world around you, there is so much evidence for creation that you would have to consciously choose to hold to an unreasonable faith in order to deny the existence of God.
