It may surprise you to learn that there are basically only two religions in the world. One, though it has various names and founders, teaches that we can get to Heaven (Nirvana, reincarnation into a better life, etc.) by doing something. The thing or things that we are supposed to do typically are some sort of good works. They may include praying, fasting, giving to the poor, living a decent life, or many other things. The other, biblical Christianity, teaches that we cannot earn eternal life by doing anything. The Bible teaches that salvation from sin and eternal life with God come through what Jesus Christ did for us, when He died in our place on the cross and arose from the dead. Our part, is not to do, but to simply believe that Jesus Christ has done all that is required to save us.
Jesus Christ said, “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” Matthew 7:13, 14
Jesus taught that many would attempt to enter Heaven through the wide gate of religion, but that the true way to eternal life with God is narrow. The video below talks about the way out.
